As many of you know, I am the founder of the Smart School of Coaching in London and I take huge pride in training fantastic coaches.

What came became clear to me fairly quickly is that it is not enough simply to gain coaching skills if you aspire to create a coaching business. That's like giving a set of tools to a carpenter and telling them to go and create a furniture business.

The problem is that the two sets of skills are just different. And one without the other is only half the picture.

Someone who can get clients ringing off the hook for handmade furniture but who has never trained as a carpenter is soon going to be found out! But so is a highly skilled carpenter who puts an ad in Yellow Pages and sits back to wait for the stream of customers. It just isn't going to happen.

Times have changed and coaching has moved on. Coaches need to have business savvy and a set of skills to attract and keep clients.

The recent seminar I ran on "Getting 10 Clients in 3 Months" really proved the point. I've already had 6 people tell me that they've secured at least one new paying client since the seminar. In one case, someone had gained three new clients.

It's simply the application of some key business skills that many coaches lack.
